The Sinking City 2 Chapter 5 Walkthrough: Cold Comfort
Last verified · TSC2 Wiki
Cold Comfort is the final chapter: the Columbarium, the cave system and the portal room. The gate is the portal device, which needs all four of its faces aligned, and beyond it is the run to Slither Prime. Sweep everything before you activate the portal.
Spoiler policy: this page covers route and mechanics only. Story beats, character outcomes and the finale itself are not described here — see the endings section if that is what you want.

What Cold Comfort is
This The Sinking City 2 Cold Comfort walkthrough covers a chapter that is deliberately narrow after the sprawl of Time and Tide. You move through the Columbarium and a cave system to the portal room, and the pacing is closer to a corridor shooter than to the exploration of the early game.
Practically, that means two things. Ammunition matters more than searching here, and there is very little left to collect — so anything you did not clear in chapter 4 is effectively gone.
The Sturdy Key and the route
The Sturdy Key is the chapter's access item, opening the late doors between you and the portal room. There is no elaborate chain around it: find it where the route takes you and use it where the objective points.
The cave system is the most enemy-dense stretch in the game. Fighting in the open is a bad trade here — use corridors, use the stomp on downed enemies, and do not be shy about running past groups you do not need to kill.
The portal device
The chapter's one real puzzle is the portal device, and it is spatial rather than numeric: align the pieces on all four faces, then activate. Walk around it between adjustments — a face that looks correct head-on is often wrong from the side, and the back face is the one people forget because they never stand there.
The point of no return
Activating the portal is effectively the last point of no return. There is no chapter select, and the run to the finale does not hand you back to Arkham. Before you touch it:
- Run the missable checklist for this chapter.
- Spend every point of Dream Essence — there is nothing left to save it for.
- Top up ammunition and healing. The final boss is a damage check.
- Save at the safe room conch player.
The finale
Slither Prime has no gimmick: shoot the head, dodge the sweeps, and clear the enemies it summons so they do not surround you. It is the mirror image of the Shoggoth, which was all mechanic and no damage race.
Afterwards, the story resolves and New Game Plus — Ex Oblivione Mode — unlocks. That second run is where the codices live and where the platinum is finished.
After the credits
Three things are worth doing once you have finished. Start Ex Oblivione Mode while the routes are still fresh in your head; read what the ending actually says if any of it landed ambiguously; and check the platinum roadmap if you intend to finish the trophy list.
One honest note: Frogwares has never published how many endings the game has, and several sites filled that gap with invented names in launch week. Our endings pages stick to what is verifiable.
