The Sinking City 2 New Game Plus (Ex Oblivione Mode)

Last verified · TSC2 Wiki

New Game Plus in The Sinking City 2 is called Ex Oblivione Mode. It carries your progression into a fresh run and is the only place Ex Oblivione Codices appear — which is why full completion cannot be reached in a single playthrough.

Cross-checkedConfirmed against several independent walkthroughs of the build 1.0 (launch build, August 2026) on August 22, 2026 against published trophy and completion data. Codes and sequences in this game are fixed, not randomised per save. If a patch changes this, tell us on the contact page and we will re-check and re-date the page.

What Ex Oblivione Mode is

A second run with your progression intact and one addition the first run does not have: the codices. They do not spawn on a first playthrough at all, so nothing is missed by not looking for them the first time through.

That single design decision is what makes the platinum a deliberate two-run project rather than a cleanup pass — the roadmap divides the work accordingly.

Why a second run is worth doing here

Three reasons, and they compound:

  • The game is short. Eight to twelve hours for the story, so a replay costs an evening rather than a weekend — length breakdown.
  • You keep your build. The talents you could not afford the first time become reachable, since a single run does not generate enough Dream Essence for everything.
  • The story reads differently. A large part of this narrative arrives through documents, and knowing the destination changes what the evidence means.

What to do differently on the second run

  1. Codices first. They are the only NG+-exclusive collectible.
  2. Raise the difficulty if you want the fights to matter — Sleep Demon is far more reasonable with progression carried over, and it is switchable at any time.
  3. Clean up missed sets. Anything a closed chapter took from you in run one.
  4. Fill the talent tree. The essence from a second pass is what completes it.

What still applies in NG+

The rules do not relax. There is still no chapter select, collectibles are still chapter-locked, and the missable checklist is just as necessary on the second run as the first.

Puzzle solutions and safe codes are unchanged — they are authored into the levels, not randomised, so 1908, 2137, 1496, 6294 and 1672 are the same numbers again.

Trophies and NG+

The 23-item list includes work that can only be finished in Ex Oblivione Mode, which is the structural reason 100% takes two runs. Reported completion time for the platinum is around 20 hours across both — a community figure rather than an official one.

The trophy list page covers the distribution and what is missable.

Starting a second run without losing your first

Ex Oblivione Mode is a mode you start, not a save you overwrite, so your completed playthrough remains intact. On PC this matters if you are using Steam Cloud across two machines — let the cloud finish syncing before starting the new run rather than closing the game mid-sync.

Console players have the equivalent through the platform's own cloud saves. Either way, the completed save is what proves you finished the story if a trophy fails to pop.

What we have not verified

Being verifiedWe can source that Ex Oblivione Mode exists, that it carries progression, and that codices are exclusive to it. We have not published a codex count or a per-chapter codex map, because we have not completed a full second-run sweep and the numbers circulating elsewhere are not sourced to Frogwares.
