The Sinking City 2 Best PC Settings
Last verified · TSC2 Wiki
The Sinking City 2 best settings advice comes from Frogwares itself, in this order: reduce resolution first (4K or 1440p down to 1080p), then lower video settings, then try different upscaling options, and enable frame generation last — with V-Sync off if your monitor is 60 Hz.
Official"Reduce resolution from 4K/2K to Full HD (1920x1080) or lower, decrease video settings, try different upscaling options, enable Frame Generation, or disable V-Sync if using Frame Generation with a 60 Hz monitor" — Frogwares' FAQ.
The Sinking City 2 — quick facts
| First change | Resolution |
|---|---|
| Second | Video settings |
| Third | Upscaling mode |
| Fourth | Frame generation (RTX 40/50 only) |
| Avoid | DLSS Performance and Ultra Performance — the studio calls them unstable |
| Low preset caveat | Can produce visual artefacts on low-end cards |
| Do not | Change settings mid-gameplay — restart or reload instead |
The order that actually works
- Resolution. The single biggest FPS boost available and the first optimization to make, and the studio's first recommendation. Dropping from 1440p to 1080p buys more than any individual setting.
- Video settings. Lower the preset or the heaviest individual options.
- Upscaling. Try the available modes — but stay at Balanced or higher, because Frogwares lists Performance and Ultra Performance as unstable.
- Frame generation. RTX 40 or 50 series only, and it needs Windows Hardware-Accelerated GPU Scheduling enabled.
- V-Sync off if you are using frame generation on a 60 Hz display.
Settings not to touch mid-game
Known issueFrogwares lists changing settings during gameplay as a cause of visual bugs, with the fix being to restart the game or reload a save. Make your changes from the main menu or immediately after a reload, not mid-encounter.
The Low preset also carries a caveat: on low-end graphics cards it can produce visual artefacts. If Low looks wrong rather than merely simple, that is the known behaviour rather than a broken install.
Raise gamma before you do anything else
This is not a performance setting, but it is the single change that improves most players' experience. The game is extremely dark, and the darkness hides inventory upgrades on tables, symbols on padlocks, and Roman numerals on the salt storage panel.
Several puzzles are harder than intended purely because the input is difficult to read at default brightness.
What the hardware targets tell you
Frogwares publishes two targets: minimum hardware for 1080p at 30 fps on Low, and recommended for 1440p at 60 fps on Medium — both evaluated with upscaling.
That is a useful sanity check. If you are on a GTX 1070 chasing 60 fps at 1440p, no settings combination will get you there; the studio's own numbers say so. Full specs on the requirements page.
Storage and streaming
The SSD requirement is not decorative. Frogwares notes that after loading into a level, props and assets may take a moment to finish loading, and that the time depends on your hardware. On a mechanical drive this becomes continuous pop-in.
If the game stutters when you move quickly through a new area rather than in combat, storage is a more likely culprit than your GPU.
If it still runs badly
- Update drivers cleanly — ideally with Display Driver Uninstaller first, which is the studio's own suggestion for a missing DLSS option.
- Verify game files — the same first step as crash troubleshooting.
- Check whether you are on the Low preset with artefacts, and try Medium instead.
- Report it. frogwares.com/support takes bug reports with dxdiag and screenshots — the studio has been actively patching.
The Sinking City 2 FAQ
What are the best settings for FPS?
Drop resolution first, then video settings, then try upscaling modes at Balanced or higher. Add frame generation last if you have an RTX 40 or 50 series card.
Why does the game look wrong on Low?
Frogwares lists visual artefacts on the Low preset with low-end graphics cards as a known issue. Try Medium.
Should I change settings while playing?
No. The studio lists mid-gameplay setting changes as a cause of visual bugs; restart or reload after changing them.
