The Sinking City 2 Collectibles and 100% Completion

Last verified · TSC2 Wiki

Collectibles in The Sinking City 2 fall into four groups: ERC crates (which need activator pens), inventory upgrades, evidence and clue items that pay for talents, and Ex Oblivione codices that only exist in New Game Plus. There is no chapter select, so everything is missable within its chapter.

Not announcedFrogwares has not published an official total number of collectibles. Third-party counts circulating online are not sourced to the studio, so we do not quote one — what we do publish is the per-chapter checklist and the categories below.

Only the last of those is exotic. The other three are things you walk past constantly in a game that is very dark and very good at hiding a table in a corner.

Why everything is missable

There is no chapter select at all. You can backtrack freely inside the chapter you are playing, but once a story beat closes a chapter, that area is gone for the rest of the run. That single design decision is what makes collectible planning matter here more than in most horror games.

The practical answer is a per-chapter sweep before each transition. Our missable checklist is organised exactly that way — what to have done before A New Day ends, before The Wake-Up Call ends, and so on.

The crate-and-pen system, explained once

This is the single most searched mechanic in the game's first week, so plainly:

  • An ERC crate is a supply container. It will not open on its own.
  • An ERC Activator Pen is a separate item found elsewhere on the same level.
  • One pen opens one crate. Finding a crate you cannot open is not a bug and not a locked door — it means the pen is still out there.

Full location work on crates and pens.

Trophies and achievements

There are 23 in total. On PlayStation that breaks down as 2 bronze, 13 silver, 7 gold and 1 platinum; on Steam and Xbox it is 23 achievements with no rarity tiers.

The important structural facts: many are missable, there is no chapter select, and 100% requires New Game Plus, because Ex Oblivione codices only spawn there. That makes the platinum a deliberate two-playthrough job rather than a cleanup pass.

See the trophy list for the breakdown and the platinum roadmap for the order to do it in.

A sweep routine that works

  1. Enter a new area and listen. Several clues are audio-only ghost replays — the 6294 safe code is one of them.
  2. Loot bodies first. Keys live on corpses in this game more often than in containers.
  3. Note every crate you cannot open, then find the pen before you leave the level.
  4. Check tables and desks specifically. Inventory upgrades sit on them in the open, not in containers.
  5. Run the chapter checklist before any obvious point of no return. Boat rides, portals and cutscene doors are the usual tells.

None of this requires playing slowly. The Sinking City 2 is a ten-hour game with dense, compact levels — a thorough sweep adds perhaps ninety minutes across the whole run, and most of that time comes back as ammunition you did not have to ration.

What 100% actually asks of you

Full completion in The Sinking City 2 is two playthroughs by design, not by accident. Run one is where you clear crates, upgrades, evidence and the story trophies. Run two — Ex Oblivione Mode — is where the codices exist at all, and where you can mop up anything a closed chapter took from you.

Because talents also carry a completion cost (you cannot afford every talent on a single run's Dream Essence), the second playthrough is where builds get interesting. See builds and the platinum roadmap for how the two runs divide up.

The Sinking City 2 FAQ

How many collectibles are in The Sinking City 2?

Frogwares has not published an official total, and we will not quote an unsourced one. What is confirmed is the structure: ERC crates, inventory upgrades, evidence items and NG+-only Ex Oblivione codices, all missable within their chapter.

Can I go back for collectibles after finishing a chapter?

No. There is no chapter select, so anything left behind waits until New Game Plus.

Do I need to collect everything for the platinum?

You need a second run regardless, because Ex Oblivione codices exist only in NG+. The roadmap splits the work across the two playthroughs.

Why will my ERC crate not open?

You need an ERC Activator Pen from elsewhere on the level. Frogwares states this directly in its own FAQ, and it is the most common source of confusion in the game.
