The Sinking City 2 Ex Oblivione Codices (New Game Plus Only)

Last verified · TSC2 Wiki

Ex Oblivione Codices appear only in New Game Plus, which The Sinking City 2 calls Ex Oblivione Mode. They do not spawn on a first playthrough at all, which is why full completion is a deliberate two-run job rather than something you can finish in one pass.

Cross-checkedConfirmed against several independent walkthroughs of the build 1.0 (launch build, August 2026) on August 22, 2026. Codes and sequences in this game are fixed, not randomised per save. If a patch changes this, tell us on the contact page and we will re-check and re-date the page.

What Ex Oblivione Mode is

Finishing the story unlocks New Game Plus under the name Ex Oblivione Mode. It replays the campaign with your progression intact, and it adds a collectible category that simply is not present the first time through: the codices.

This is worth understanding before your first run, because it changes how much you should stress about completion. You cannot 100% The Sinking City 2 in one playthrough no matter how carefully you sweep — the game does not allow it.

Why the codices exist

Mechanically they give NG+ a reason to be a collectible hunt rather than a victory lap. Narratively they are lore documents, and they read differently once you already know how the story resolves — which is the usual reason a studio gates material behind a second run.

We do not reproduce their text here. Where the endings section talks about what the finale means, it is careful to separate what the game shows from what other sites have invented, and the same rule applies to codex content.

What we have not confirmed

Being verifiedWe have not published a codex count or a per-chapter location list, because we have not completed a full Ex Oblivione sweep ourselves and the numbers circulating elsewhere are not sourced to Frogwares. When we have it verified, this page gets the list and a new date — that is how our editorial policy works.

How this compares to other horror sequels

Gating a collectible category behind New Game Plus is not unusual, but The Sinking City 2 is unusually clear about it: the game is short enough that a second run costs you an evening rather than a weekend, and Ex Oblivione Mode keeps your progression so the replay is faster and more powerful than the first pass.

If you normally skip NG+ modes, this is one worth doing anyway. The story reads differently on a second pass, the talents you could not afford the first time are finally reachable, and it is the only route to 100% on any platform.

If codices are not spawning

  • You are on a first playthrough. They do not exist there.
  • You started a fresh game instead of NG+. Ex Oblivione Mode is a specific option after completing the story, not a new save.
  • You are past the chapter that holds one. NG+ has no chapter select either.

Worth repeating because it saves people a wasted evening: nothing you do on a first playthrough affects codices at all. There is no hidden prerequisite, no missable trigger, and no difficulty requirement. Finish the story, start Ex Oblivione Mode, and they are simply there.
