The Sinking City 2 Ending Explained

Last verified · TSC2 Wiki

The ending of The Sinking City 2 resolves the bargain the whole game is built on: Calvin Rafferty's ritual left Faye Adelaide Bennett comatose beneath the Night Shade, and everything he does in drowned Arkham is an attempt to bring her back from the Dreamlands — at a cost the finale finally names.

Spoilers. This section discusses the end of the game. Nothing on this page is hidden behind a click, so stop here if you have not finished.

Cross-checkedConfirmed against several independent walkthroughs of the build 1.0 (launch build, August 2026) on August 22, 2026. Codes and sequences in this game are fixed, not randomised per save. If a patch changes this, tell us on the contact page and we will re-check and re-date the page.

The setup the ending pays off

Calvin performed a ritual using the Book of Dreaming. It did not do what he intended: Faye fell into a coma, and the Night Shade — an ancient mask — manifested on her face. The campaign is his search for a second ritual, from Recitations of the Tenebrous Soul, that would retrieve her spirit from the Dreamlands.

Everything else in the game is scaffolding for that: Arkham's flood, the Order-adjacent figures you meet, Professor Upham, Mayor Joseph Peabody and Governor Randall Yates all sit around a story about a man who broke something and will pay any price to unbreak it.

What the Night Shade means mechanically and thematically

The mask is not only a plot object. It is the thing that revives Calvin when Night Ore is charged — the same artefact that took Faye keeps him alive.

That is unusually tidy design. The system you rely on to survive is the story's central wound, and every time it saves you, the game restates the bargain. Lovecraftian fiction has always been about the cost of knowledge; here the cost is literally your extra life.

The tone of the finale

Frogwares does not close this story with a neat bow, and the studio's framing throughout marketing — weighing one life against an entire city — is the question the finale actually poses. It is the structure of the whole game restated: a personal debt against a civic catastrophe.

The route there runs through the Columbarium, the portal device and Slither Prime, covered in the chapter 5 walkthrough.

What we deliberately do not tell you

Not announcedWe do not publish a count of endings, names for them, or a description of a "hidden flag system" governing them. None of that is traceable to Frogwares, and several sites published exactly those claims within days of launch.

What we will publish, when we can document it, is what we have seen ourselves, dated and marked as such. That is the whole difference between this section and the pages that outrank it today.

Does the ending set up a third game?

Nothing has been announced. Frogwares has published no DLC, no season pass and no sequel plans for this game as of August 2026.

What does exist is Ex Oblivione Mode, and the codices that only appear there — which is the closest thing to additional story material the game currently offers.

If the ending confused you

Two practical suggestions. First, read the documents you collected; a large share of this story is delivered through evidence rather than cutscenes, and the Investigation Space is where those threads are drawn together. Second, play Ex Oblivione Mode — the codices are lore documents that only exist on a second run.

If you skipped optional investigations on the way through, you missed a meaningful part of the narrative as well as most of your Dream Essence.

The Sinking City 2 FAQ

Faye Adelaide Bennett, Calvin's lover, left comatose by his ritual with the Night Shade mask on her face.

Is there a post-credits scene or sequel hook?

Frogwares has announced no DLC or sequel. Ex Oblivione Mode and its codices are the additional material that exists today.
