The Sinking City 2 Talent Points
Last verified · TSC2 Wiki
Talent Points are earned the same way as Dream Essence: by finding clues across the level and correctly connecting related ones in the Investigation Space. Combat does not generate them, and neither does simply progressing the story.
Official"Find clues scattered across the level. Then, in the Investigation Space, correctly connect related clues" — Frogwares' answer to how Talent Points and Dream Essence are earned.

Points and essence are the same economy
The Sinking City 2 talent points and Dream Essence are answered in a single Frogwares FAQ line, and that is the clearest signal about how they work: they come out of the same activity. Search, read, connect. Do that consistently and both currencies accumulate; skip it and neither does.
The distinction between them matters at the Talent Table rather than in the world, where each unlock has its own cost.
Where clues hide
- Side rooms off the objective route. The marker never routes you past most of them.
- On bodies. This game hides a remarkable amount on corpses, which read as scenery in the dark.
- In audio. Some information is delivered by ghost replay rather than paper — the 6294 safe code is the famous example.
- Behind locked doors. Keys, safe codes and puzzles gate a meaningful share of the evidence.
Connecting them correctly
The pay-out is for correct connections, so the Investigation Space is not a formality to click through. Read what each clue actually says, connect the pairs that genuinely relate, and take the extra thirty seconds.
How the interface works, and what happens when you get a link wrong, is on the Investigation Space page.
Why points are the difficulty setting nobody mentions
Two The Sinking City 2 players on the same difficulty mode can have very different experiences of chapters 4 and 5, depending entirely on how many talents they can afford. Points and essence are the mechanism behind that gap.
If the back half of the game feels unfair, the honest first question is not whether the balance is off — it is how many optional investigations you have completed.
What points actually buy
Access, mostly. Higher talent tiers cost more, so the difference between a run with a handful of points and a run with plenty is not just quantity — it is whether the Expert tier is reachable at all before the finale.
That is the practical argument against treating investigation as optional: it does not slow the game down so much as decide which half of the talent list you get to play with.
Points are missable
The Sinking City 2 locks clues to their chapter, and there is no chapter select. An unread document in a closed chapter is a point you cannot earn on this run.
Run the missable checklist before every transition, and treat optional investigations as part of the chapter rather than as extras.
How much searching is enough
There is a sensible ceiling. Reading every document in a chapter and finishing that chapter's optional investigations is enough; combing every corner twice is not required and does not pay extra.
Roughly ten to fifteen minutes of deliberate searching per chapter is the difference between a build with four talents and a build with one. That is the whole trade, and it is why this page exists rather than a page about grinding.
If your points are not increasing
- You are collecting but not connecting. Picking a clue up is not the pay-out; linking it is.
- Your connections are wrong. Only correct deductions pay.
- You have not reached the third safe room, so you have nothing to spend them on yet — but they are still accumulating.
- You are skipping optional investigations, which are the densest source in every chapter.
