What the demo contained

The opening stretch of the game: the introductory interiors, the first searching and combat tutorials, and the beginning of A New Day. PC Gamer covered it as a chance to try the survival-horror rebuild before release, which was exactly its purpose — the first game was a detective open world, and Frogwares needed to show that the sequel was something else.

Players who ran it thoroughly reported a longer session than an hour, because the opening rewards searching. That is representative of the full game.

Did progress carry over?

Not confirmedFrogwares has not published a statement about demo save transfer that we can cite, so we do not assert one either way. If you played the demo and want certainty, the safe assumption is that you start the full game fresh.

It matters less than it would in a longer game: the demo covers the first hour, and that hour is quick to replay.

Was there a console demo?

The demo we can source was the Steam one. A PS5 or Xbox demo is frequently searched — the phrase "demo ps5" turns up constantly in search suggestions — but we have no first-party confirmation of a console demo, so this page says so rather than filling the gap.

What to do instead now the game is out

The Sinking City 2 demo has done its job. If you are deciding whether to buy:

If you are checking hardware rather than taste

A demo is also how people test performance. With the demo's availability uncertain, the published requirements are the better guide: minimum is a Core i7-8700K or Ryzen 5 3600X with a GTX 1070 or RX 5700 for 1080p/30 on Low, and recommended is a Core i5-14600K or Ryzen 5 7600X with an RTX 4070 Ti for 1440p/60 on Medium. An SSD is required, and the install is 70 GB.

Two PC caveats worth knowing before you commit money: AMD FSR is not supported at launch, and DLSS Frame Generation needs an RTX 40 or 50 series card.

Why the demo mattered for this game specifically

Sequels rarely need to prove they are a different genre. This one did. The 2019 original was an open-world detective game with combat as an afterthought; the sequel is a linear survival horror where ammunition is the main constraint and investigation is the progression economy rather than the loop.

An hour of hands-on was the cleanest way to communicate that, and it is why the demo showed the opening rather than a curated combat slice — the first hour is where the new structure announces itself.

Refunds as a fallback

Every storefront selling the game has its own refund policy — Steam's two-hour window is the most commonly used, and GOG and the console stores have their own rules. That is the practical replacement for a demo, and two hours is enough to see the opening chapter and judge how the game runs on your hardware.
