The Sinking City 2 Mods

Last verified · TSC2 Wiki

Frogwares has not announced official mod support or modding tools for The Sinking City 2. Anything that exists is community-made and unsupported, which means it can break with patches, interfere with saves, and complicate any bug report you send to the studio.

Not announcedNo official modding tools or mod support have been announced. We do not link to mod downloads, and nothing on this page is an endorsement of a specific mod or site.

What the modding situation actually is

This is an Unreal Engine 5 game without published modding tools. In practice that means community efforts tend to fall into three categories: configuration tweaks, texture or visual adjustments, and injected quality-of-life changes.

None of that is sanctioned, and none of it is stable across patches. Frogwares has been updating the game since release, and an update that changes game files is exactly what breaks an unsupported mod.

What mods can break

  • Achievements. Modifying game files can prevent unlocks or invalidate a run you intended to count toward the 23 achievements.
  • Saves. A mod that alters content can leave a save that no longer loads cleanly once the mod is removed or updated.
  • Support. The studio asks for a dxdiag and details when you report a bug. A modded install makes any report much harder to act on.
  • Stability. The game already has published known issues; adding unsupported code makes diagnosing your own problems considerably harder.

If you want to change how the game plays

Several things people reach for mods to do are already in the game:

  • Make it easier. Four difficulty modes, switchable at any time, and the lowest can be made very forgiving — details.
  • See more. Raise the gamma. The game is genuinely very dark and this fixes more frustration than any visual mod.
  • Improve performance. Follow the studio's own order on the settings page before installing anything.
  • Skip a puzzle. Every solution is on this wiki — see puzzles and safe codes.

A note on where mods come from

Unofficial executables from unfamiliar sites are one of the most common ways people compromise a gaming PC. That risk is the same whether the file is described as a mod, a trainer or a patch, and it is the reason this page does not link to downloads.

If you do install something, the ordinary precautions apply: established community sources such as Nexus rather than random file hosts, back up your saves first, and expect to reinstall cleanly after a patch.

Mods and the DRM-free version

The GOG release is DRM-free, which historically makes a game easier to modify. That does not change anything about official support — Frogwares has announced none regardless of storefront — and GOG achievements are affected by file changes in the same way Steam's are.

The storefront comparison is on the PC storefronts page.

Why an unmodded install is worth keeping

This is a ten-hour game with a two-run completion path, patched actively since release. An unmodded install stays compatible with those patches, keeps achievements clean across both runs, and leaves you able to file a bug report the studio can act on.

For a long-running sandbox game the calculus is different. Here, the cost of an unsupported mod breaking a second playthrough is higher than whatever it added.

What would change this page

An announcement of official mod support or tools from Frogwares, or a documented, widely used mod that we can describe accurately. Either would be added here with a date.

Until then, the honest summary is short: no official support, community efforts exist, and the risks are ordinary rather than exotic.
