The Sinking City 2 DLSS, FSR and Frame Generation
Last verified · TSC2 Wiki
AMD FSR is not supported in The Sinking City 2 at launch — Frogwares states AMD has not released the plugin required for Unreal Engine 5.8. DLSS Frame Generation requires an RTX 40 or 50 series card, and DLSS Performance and Ultra Performance modes are unstable; use Balanced or higher.

The Sinking City 2 — quick facts
| FSR | Not supported at launch |
|---|---|
| Reason | AMD has not released the UE 5.8 plugin |
| DLSS upscaling | Supported |
| DLSS Frame Generation | RTX 40 or 50 series required |
| Also needed for FG | Windows Hardware-Accelerated GPU Scheduling |
| Unstable modes | DLSS Performance and Ultra Performance |
| 60 Hz displays | Turn V-Sync off when using frame generation |
Why there is no FSR
The Sinking City 2 FSR support question is a plugin problem rather than a decision about AMD users. The game runs on an Unreal Engine 5.8 branch, and the studio's position is that AMD has not released the plugin or patch that version requires. Until that lands, FSR cannot be exposed as an option.
Practically, that means Radeon owners are relying on the engine's own TSR upscaling — which is what Frogwares used when evaluating its published system requirements — rather than FSR.
DLSS: what works and what does not
| Feature | Requirement | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| DLSS upscaling | RTX card | If the option is missing, update or clean-reinstall your driver |
| DLSS Quality / Balanced | — | Recommended range |
| DLSS Performance / Ultra Performance | — | Listed as unstable by Frogwares |
| Frame Generation | RTX 40/50 series + Hardware-Accelerated GPU Scheduling | Turn V-Sync off on 60 Hz displays |
If the DLSS option is missing
Frogwares' own answer: update or reinstall your Nvidia graphics driver using a clean installation, preferably running Display Driver Uninstaller first. A missing DLSS option is a driver-state problem rather than a game setting.
The same clean-driver step resolves a range of launch and stability issues — see the crash fixes page.
Frame generation gotchas
- Performance can get worse with frame generation on a 60 Hz monitor unless you disable V-Sync. Frogwares states this directly.
- Hardware-Accelerated GPU Scheduling must be enabled in Windows graphics settings.
- It is not a substitute for hitting the base frame rate. Generated frames on top of a poor baseline feel worse than a lower, stable native rate.
What Radeon owners should do instead
Follow the studio's general performance order: drop resolution first, then settings, then use the engine's own upscaling. The published recommended target — 1440p at 60 fps on Medium with upscaling — was evaluated on an RX 7900 XT among others, so competitive Radeon performance is expected even without FSR.

What upscaling actually buys you here
Both of Frogwares' published performance targets assume upscaling is on — the studio says the specs were evaluated using TSR and comparable technologies. That is unusually candid, and it reframes upscaling as part of the intended configuration rather than a rescue measure.
The practical consequence: if you have turned upscaling off to chase image purity and the game runs badly, you are not playing the configuration the requirements describe.
Will FSR be added?
Not announcedFrogwares has framed the absence as waiting on AMD's plugin for the engine version, which implies support could follow — but the studio has not committed to a date, and we do not report implication as commitment.
If it lands in a patch, this page gets updated and re-dated. Patch behaviour is also when we re-check the code and puzzle pages, per our editorial policy.
The Sinking City 2 FAQ
Does The Sinking City 2 support AMD FSR?
No, not at launch. Frogwares says AMD has not released the plugin required for Unreal Engine 5.8.
Why can I not enable DLSS Frame Generation?
It requires an Nvidia RTX 40 or 50 series card, and Hardware-Accelerated GPU Scheduling must be enabled in Windows.
Which DLSS mode should I use?
Balanced or higher. Frogwares lists Performance and Ultra Performance as unstable.
