The Sinking City 2 Shoggoth Boss Fight
Last verified · TSC2 Wiki
Beat the Shoggoth by activating all three devices in the arena, which forces it to reveal its eyes — then shoot them. Repeat the cycle; the Shoggoth's assault gets more frenzied each time it is injured. It is a mechanic fight, not a damage race.

The Sinking City 2 — quick facts
| Chapter | 3 — A Sight For Sore Eyes |
|---|---|
| Location | Akeley Hospital |
| Type | Mechanic fight |
| Weak point | Its eyes, exposed only after the devices are active |
| Bring | Shotgun, healing, and a charged Night Shade if possible |
| Phases | Escalating — more aggressive after each injury |
The fight in one loop
- Find the three devices placed around the arena. They are the fight, not the scenery.
- Activate all three. Partial activation does nothing — the eyes only open when all three are live.
- Shoot the eyes while they are exposed. This is the only damage window.
- Survive the escalation. Each injury makes the Shoggoth more aggressive.
- Repeat until it goes down.
What to bring
Arrive stocked. Chapter 3 is dense with encounters before you get here, and the Shoggoth is the first fight in The Sinking City 2 that punishes an empty inventory.
- Shotgun for the pressure between windows — why the Field Surgeon ranks first.
- A precise weapon for the eyes. Focused aim matters here more than anywhere.
- Healing items, and ideally a charged Night Shade for a free second chance.
Movement during the fight
The devices are spread out deliberately, so the fight is a circuit rather than a stand-up shootout. Move between activations rather than trying to fight from one position, and treat each device as a checkpoint in your own head.
When the eyes open, stop moving and focus. This is the one moment where standing still is the right call, because a missed damage window means running the whole circuit again.
If you keep dying
- Lower the difficulty for this fight. It is switchable from the pause menu and costs nothing on the trophy side — the modes explained.
- Check your talents. The Talent Table opens at the third safe room, so by chapter 3 you should have something equipped — which to pick.
- Go back and clear the hospital first. Backtracking within a chapter is unrestricted, and the reception ERC crate is worth the trip.
- Reload if something looks stuck. Frogwares lists enemies getting caught in collision as a known issue with a reload as the fix.
Why this fight exists where it does
It is a test of whether you have engaged with the game's systems. A player who has been searching arrives with ammunition, a talent or two and a charged mask; a player who has been following objective markers arrives with a handgun and hope.
If it goes badly, that is useful information for chapters 4 and 5 rather than a reason to grind — the fix is to search more in Time and Tide.
Reading the arena
The Shoggoth's arena is designed around the three devices, which means the room itself is telling you what to do. If you find yourself trading shots with the boss and nothing is happening, the answer is almost always that you have not activated everything.
It is also worth walking the space before the fight properly starts, if the game lets you. Knowing where all three devices are before you are under pressure turns a chaotic fight into a route.
After the Shoggoth
The chapter closes shortly afterwards, so run the missable checklist before you move on — the hospital holds the mask pieces, the prism stations and both keyed wings.
Next stop is Time and Tide, which is the best-stocked chapter in the game and where you build the reserve for the final boss.
The Sinking City 2 FAQ
How do you beat the Shoggoth?
Activate all three devices to force its eyes open, then shoot them, and repeat as its attacks escalate.
Why is the Shoggoth not taking damage?
Because its eyes are not exposed. Damage only lands during the window after all three devices are active.
What should I bring to the fight?
A shotgun for pressure, a precise weapon for the eyes, healing items and ideally a charged Night Shade mask.
