The Sinking City 2 1672 Code: What It Opens
Last verified · TSC2 Wiki
1672 is the watergate code in The Sinking City 2, and it is the only place the number is used. It is the year the bell was installed, cast into the bell itself near the mechanism. Enter it on the panel and the gate cycles open.
Cross-checkedConfirmed against several independent walkthroughs of the build 1.0 (launch build, August 2026) on August 22, 2026. Codes and sequences in this game are fixed, not randomised per save. If a patch changes this, tell us on the contact page and we will re-check and re-date the page.
The Sinking City 2 — quick facts
| Chapter | 1 — A New Day |
|---|---|
| Code | 1672 |
| Where the safe is | The watergate control panel on the walkway |
| Where the clue is | The installation year cast into the nearby bell |
| Reward | Opens the watergate and the route it controls |
| Randomised? | No — fixed for every playthrough |
What 1672 opens
One thing: the watergate in A New Day. It is not a safe, so there is nothing to loot from entering it — the reward is access. Flooded Arkham is routed by water as much as by street, and the gates control which way you can take the boat.
The mechanism itself, including what changes once the gate is open, is covered on the watergate puzzle page.
Where the date is written
On the bell. Period bells were commonly cast with their installation year, and the game uses that convention as its clue: walk up to the bell, read the number, enter it.
This is the second time in twenty minutes that The Sinking City 2 asks you to read a date off an object — the first is the radio shop sign for 1908. Between them they establish the rule that carries most of the game's number locks.
1672 versus 1908
| 1908 | 1672 | |
|---|---|---|
| Lock | House safe | Watergate mechanism |
| Clue | Radio shop sign | Bell casting |
| Reward | Supplies | Route access |
| Optional? | Yes | No — the gate gates progress |
Both live in chapter 1, both are four digits, and swapping them is the single most common mix-up we see. If a dial rejects 1908, you are probably at the gate.
Boats, gates and one thing not to do
Once the gate is open you will be taking the boat through it. Do not ram the pier or the gate structure on the way. That is not folklore: Frogwares lists boat collisions in its own known-issues post as a cause of a black screen that requires reloading the last save.
The Arkham map page covers how boat routes and districts fit together, and which gates open when. It is also worth knowing that the boat is not a fast-travel system: it is a traversal layer with its own hazards, and the game expects you to look where you are going rather than hold the stick forward.
If 1672 is rejected
- Wrong lock. Try it only at the watergate panel.
- Dials set but not confirmed. The panel needs its lever after the digits.
- The task is not active. Check the map — some interactions only accept input once the relevant objective is live.
What the gate changes about getting around
Arkham after the flood is a hybrid space: some streets are walkable, some are canals, and the watergates decide which is which. Opening this one re-routes the district and is what lets you finish the chapter's remaining errands instead of circling the same three blocks.
It is also the game's introduction to boat traversal, which stays with you for the rest of the run. Two practical notes: the boat takes damage from collisions and the pier is unforgiving, and several optional caches in later chapters are only reachable by water. Both are covered on the Arkham map page.
